"The art of healing comes from nature and not from the physician.  Therefore, the physician must start from nature with an open mind" ~Paracelsus

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a Japanese word which means "Universal Life Force"  "Rei" means "of the cosmos" and "Ki" means "life energy" and is the equivalent of "Chi" in Chinese and "Prana" in Sanskrit.

Reiki is a hands-on, non-invasive, natural healing system in which several hand positions are used to project energy into the body of the recipient.  Reiki is given by placing hands on or 1-2 inches above the body.  The hand positions used correspond mostly with the Chakra system.

Reiki treats the whole person, encompassing the body, mind and spirit.  The vitality of our being relies on this body, mind, spirit connection.   Any imbalance in any aspect of this connection can lead to illness.

Reiki can provide the client with relief from a multitude of health issues.  When combined with traditional medicines and techniques  Reiki can help to speed up the healing process and therefore is extremely beneficial in many instances; For pre-operative care Reiki can help the patient prepare physically and emotionally.  During post-operative care the patient can have a faster recovery.  For pre and post natal care Reiki can help the mom-to- be remain balanced and lessen the stress of pregnancy and childbirth.  The healing process, after birth, can be shortened.  Reiki can help to lessen the side effects for those going through chemotherapy treatments.  Patients with cancer have reported
reduced pain, and reduced nausea and vomiting after Reiki sessions.  Reiki
has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety and fatigue.  Reiki can help to restore the natural energy balance in the body and evoke a profound sense of peace and well-being.   It can ease pain, soothe emotions and calm nerves.  Reiki is a wonderful compliment to any other healing modality.  A full Reiki treatment is generally an hour.

Reiki feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around you.  Most people experience a very relaxed, warm sensation throughout their bodies.  It is not uncommon for a person to fall asleep during a session.  Clients will feel calm and relaxed after the session.  To benefit from Reiki one only needs to be open to the energies and willing to receive them.

Melanie Montenora~Arbonne Independent Consultant

How long have you been an independent consultant for Arbonne?
I've been a consultant for 11 months.

What attracted you to Arbonne?
Honestly, it was a combination of the products and the opportunity it gives.  Working a network marketing business is very difficult but if you're lucky enough to find the right people and you put in the effort, the compensation rewards are amazing.  Regarding the products - the bottom line is that they do what they say their going to do.  I've noticed a difference in my skin and my daughter's skin since using the products and I couldn't be happier.  I also love the make-up!

What is it about Arbonne that stands out from other similar companies?
They offer so many choices in skin care and wellness for every person of every age.  It is a company that strives for excellence in it's product line and reaches out to every man, woman and child at the same time.  They also strive to use only the best ingredients which makes their products unbeatable.

How does Arbonne contribute to a persons wellbeing? First, Arbonne uses only botanical ingredients in everything they produce.  In addition to having earth-friendly guidelines, they do not test their products on animals.  Lastly, they understand the needs of today's population and are on the forefront in responding to that need.  They've recently marketed a Detox line of products which is targeted at detoxifying the body from the inside-out.  People are just beginning to realize the benefits of detoxifying our body and Arbonne has the products to help.  They also offer products for teens to help them begin to take care of their skin or at least start thinking about it.

Could you give us a good tip based on Arbonne product use?
If you don't use anything else - use a nighttime moisturizer.  Our skin renews itself only when are bodies are at rest.  By applying a moisturizer at night, you are helping your skin retain moisture and fight the effects of aging when your skin would respond best.

How can people reach you to find out more about the product line or if they are interested in becoming an independent consultant?
I can be reached anytime at 646-265-9022.  I also have a website that has info on the products and the business opportunity. Go to www.mmontenora.myarbonne.com for more information.  I am always looking for motivated individuals to become members of my team and to spread the gift of Arbonne to friends and family!

The West Is In The West - A Shamanic Perception ~By Eileen O'Hare

When I was asked to write an article about shamanic healing for the Ambriels' Song Newsletter, the latest financial crisis was only looming as a grim possibility.  When the crisis became 'reality', I knew in my heart the underlying principles and the overarching cosmology of shamanism would be helpful to consider in the face of our current situation.  It is with great love, respect and appreciation for the medicine way that I share some shamanic wisdom with you in hopes that it brings light to your heart, peace to your mind and acceptance of all that is happening.

Shamanism honors the sacred energies of the seven directions.  North/South, East/West,  Earth , Sky and our heart of hearts.  Shamanism teaches that our perceptions create our reality and by shifting our perceptions we can shift our reality at will.  It honors death and rebirth.  Death is viewed as essential to life.  We choose not to fear it.  We respect it and all it brings.

When we step out of judgement, when we shift our perception into one of fearlessness, we are able to see that these times are not 'bad'.  These times are simply shifting.

Our country is big. We like big things. We drive big cars.  We eat big. We buy big. We build big.  How could we think the shifting from the old paradigm to the new paradigm was going to happen in any other way than big!?

We are so powerful.  We create our own reality.  So, I ask you, how are you choosing to perceive what is going on?  Is your perception serving you?  Is there another way of perceiving that may help you gain what we call in shamanism - the eagle's perspective - a higher view of things?

We could choose to perceive that our beloved country is in the place of the West.  The sacred direction of the West is the place of the setting sun and the coming of darkness.  It is an essential time of deep shifting and changing, a time of chaos, entropy and decay.  It is the place of dying to old ways in order for new ways, new beingness to come to life.  In the West, we learn to see into the darkness and extract the power from it.  Could it be that we are dying to the old ways of fear and greed?  It may be that we  are allowing the sun to set on insane growth and something-for-nothing banking policies.  This is not a bad thing.  It is a death before the rebirth into a new order.

The West is in the West, the place of decay.  Something stinks.  It's the financial system of our country.  And we are a part of it.  And so, with great courage and great humility we gaze into ourselves.  We track our own energy now.  We are looking to find where fear may be lurking, where greed may be playing a well hidden role in our lives, where love of money may still be clouding love of something higher. Or perhaps we need to track where fear of poverty may still be holding us bound.  Perhaps it is a lack of self-worth keeping us from offering our beautiful healing work to the world for fear of being in poverty, fear of being judged or fear of being persecuted in some way.

And what do we know about the space/time of the West?  It is opposite the East - the place of the rising sun, the place of new beginnings.  It is between the South, where we come into our humanity and the North, where we learn to connect directly with our Divinity.  What does that mean? It means the West has come, bringing darkness with it, and it will go, bringing a return to light on a higher plane. A new dimension of light. A higher connectedness with our spiritual ancestors.  As the wisdom of another tradition puts it, 'This, too, shall pass'.

Our beautiful opportunity is to be fully present in this moment on the earth.  To breathe into it love, appreciation, peace, joy and harmony.  Breathe into this moment compassion and forgiveness for every inauthentic politician and every bad decision made by the misguided executives in the miasmic misunderstanding of greed.  Forgiving someone does not mean we do not hold them accountable for their actions.  It simply allows our energy to bounce back from anything that is not helpful.  Blame is not helpful.  Shame is not helpful.  Judgement, criticism, fear, despair, cynicism, sarcasm, these feelings are not helpful.  They are human, and perhaps each of us has been going through this flip chart of emotions in the process of living through this opportunity for change.  But now- as medicine people, we return to the sacred breath that connects us all.. And we shift ourselves into a higher frequency of faith and hope and amazement about the ingenuity of Great Spirit.  We clear our thoughts.  We clear our hearts and we act in loving ways, being aware of the quality of our speech.

We have been talking about these times for years now.  We have been training for these times.  We've been healing, praying, chanting, smudging, hiking, drumming, rattling, ritualizing, workshopping, and sacred playing for these times.  Welcome to the world for which we have been born.  Welcome to this stunning opportunity to learn how to love without condition.  The shamanic traditions say, 'We are the ones we have been waiting for'.  And these are the times we agreed to live in so that the world may be brought into balance for the highest good of all.

I practice and teach Andean Shamanism, the beautifully powerful ways of the indigenous of Peru .  Our sacred Incan lineage told us during a beautiful ceremony last September that the world was going to be brought into balance by small circles of light.

I want to thank you all for the beautiful, deep healing work in which you have been engaged in all of your small circles of light.  Thank you for every minute you have spent in  healing circles, meditation groups, Reiki Shares, prayer meetings, tribal gatherings, goddess groups and workshops.  Bless every dollar you've spent on your healing and your training.  The work each of us has been doing as individuals and the energy we have generated as a collective is contributing mightily to what is going on in the world.

What??  Our deep healing work has contributed to this??  Absolutely.  What is that old spiritual cliché?  The greater the light, the greater the shadow. And here it is.
We must be doing one heck of a job lightening ourselves up!  And so we are.
And so it is.  All in accordance with the will and the wisdom of Great Spirit.
Our small circles are working!  The West is in the West.  And so it is.
Aho.  Amen.  Heyaya.

"Battle the Holiday Bulge"
by Kevin Holt

Now that we are in October, the holidays are just around the corner. That means lots and lots of good comfort foods like ham and turkey, mashed potatoes, and of course, lots and lots of cookies and cakes and pies.  All these things can result in a potential weight gain of at least 5 pounds over the holidays, but most people gain more.  How can we fight the battle of the holiday bulge?  Here are some great tips on things we can do to help make the holidays taste just as good without looking like a bear getting ready for hibernation.

1)Substitute your favorite carbs such as bread stuffing and potatoes with healthier options like sweet potatoes or mashed cauliflower and add fruit and nuts to your favorite stuffing to give it the extra fiber it needs to help the digestion process and speeds up the metabolism.

2)Stay AWAKE!  When the holidays arrive, we tend to eat until we can't eat anymore and then we go take a holiday nap!  This stops your metabolism and turns what you just ate into body fat. Get active right after the meal and go for a walk or even a short run.  Staying active will get your body's furnace going and start burning that food up, keeping you awake for dessert!

3)Keep your portions small, try a little of everything.  Instead of being a glutton, just eat small portions, and only eat until you start to feel full, not when you are bursting at the seams.  Doing this will prevent the slowdown of your metabolism and thus potential body fat gain.

4)Desserts can be so delicious we want to eat them all, and then complain that we are fat after the holidays.  Wonder why?  Well too much sugar can turn off your metabolic switch and EVERYTHING you eat in a day can turn to body fat.  Pick your favorite 1-2 desserts and eat just a small amount, or even substitute those cakes and cookies for fresh fruit salad and dark chocolate, a good source of antioxidants to keep healthy and metabolism high.

Using these tips can keep you awake and active during the holiday season, and keep your body's metabolism high and you won't see that horrible belly bulge.  Have a healthy holiday season!  Email me with any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

falling leavesSpirit Speak
"These are the Days".
By Marisa Anderson, Psychic Consultant, Tru TV
.

These days, can be the most spectacular...before all the leaf colors change, and trees become sparser with their summer lushness. Trees and plants, almost appear to be waiting for just yet, another warm trend, before they shut down for the cold toward bitter nights and crisp fall days, producing all those colors. It appears all outside life, birds, squirrels, woodchucks, chipmunks,,are withholding also, keeping the very last appearances of summer, Yet it is already cool out today. Our lives, are so mirrored by the seasons, we are flooded with past memories, many feelings come back.

I think most of us, have that underlying sad feeling, past memories of school starting, wearing warmer clothing, and feelings of losing our "freedom". Out in the summer warmth, sun on our face, no constraints to stay indoors, we feel jubilant. It is still in our body's memory, in our very cells, experienced internally. The lack of feeling freedom, having to linger inside more, produces that "claustrophobia" and sadness. Then I think of the fall apples coming....greens, reds, and yellows..and the freshness in the air, of the leaves dropping, and that extra sweetness they produce when you drive past them, swirling around the side of the road when you drive past. It feels good, like you are waking up from months of sleep!

So it puts a smile on my face. I don't want to think about the cold coming...cozy feelings, are better to think about instead. Cuddled up in a cozy comforter, holding a cup of soup to warm your spirit, a hot cup of cider with a cinnamon stick in it, soothing yourself by the intense heat on your face in front of a fireplace, even if it happens to be a propane one! The warmth and color is still comforting! I think of cozy coats, and warm gloves, to fend off the "cold" spirit. Not many of us look with excitement any more, at the first snow coming down, we no longer look forward to running carefree out and about crunching in the freshly falling snow, tasting the sweetness of the snow crystals on our tongues. But why not? After the days of our youth were so enjoyed in the snowy days off from school, an unexpected taste of freedom! As adults instead, we look at it, and become weary instead. We don't want to clean it or drive in it, or think about heat bills going up. But, if you replace some of these sad feelings, and overlay them with all of those recalled snippets of memories, facing winter weather instead with the eyes of a child's enchanted face... becoming happy again, feeding our senses, differently and new. It is possible, to relive those recollections, and play again. The child you were, is still inside...racing home, crunching in the delightfully white sparkling snow, tasting it on your lips, in your mind. Because we still, retain that nurtured comforted feeling of home, the familiar smells, of the place you made home then, and now. Even if it is all enhanced. by a simple thing, a "Spiced Pumpkin" scented Yankee candle burning on the table, we cozy up and feel secure, our primordial needs nourished. It is time for us all, to have comfort, and to feel fortunate, for what we have. So many, in so many states, all the way from Texas up to Illinois, have lost their homes, in all the previous floods of this tough year. The last storm, Ike, did the worst in property damage, human life spared, but so many states, have e so many still without power, 1 1/2 million lost power, they are happy if they have their homes.

Look around you, take a deep breath, and be happy with what you have. Relate instead to the contentment of witnessing a cat spread out on a windowsill belly up, taking pleasure being warmed by the sun. Be there, and smile...it will help your perspective in all life's tough times. We can make sure, we live in contentment for what little we may feel we have. It is instead, so very much.

IntentionSpotlight on Alternative Health:
Hypnosis

By Jeanne Icolari

We enter into hypnosis every day spontaneously. It can be compared to a state of daydreaming, that is, we are aware of our surroundings but our mind is wandering. Have you ever driven your car to work and when you got there, you didn't remember the trip? Or become so involved in a movie that you became "zoned out"?

Miriam Webster defines hypnosis as: "a trancelike state that resembles sleep but is induced by a person whose suggestions are readily accepted by the subject."  In addition, it is a state of heightened awareness of your subconscious mind without the interference of your surroundings.
It can facilitate change in the body by reducing anxiety and stress and can help you resolve phobias and fears. It can help with addictions and a wide variety of health and emotional issues.
Hypnosis has been used for many years as an adjunct to medical and dental procedures.

Most people relate hypnosis to the shows that we see on television. This is stage hypnosis and can be quite humorous, but this is not the true picture of a hypnosis session.  Hypnosis can be done in groups but is extremely therapeutic in a one on one setting.

Many people are fearful of hypnosis because of the myths that surround it.  I would like to take a moment to dispel those myths:
-         We cannot make you reveal something about yourself that you wouldn't want anyone to know.
-         You can never go so deeply into hypnosis that you don't return - no one has ever gotten lost in hypnosis!
-         You are not asleep; you are aware of everything and will remember everything when the session is concluded.

Hypnosis works on the subconscious mind, which is the "hard drive" of your body. This is where every memory, thought, scent, experience, and yes, even past lives are stored.   In our day to day activities our conscious mind is what we use for making decisions such as what to eat and what to watch on television, or for problem solving. Our subconscious mind is where change occurs. By bypassing the "critical factor" of the conscious mind, the hypnotherapist can instill new suggestions and programming that can then create desired change in behavior or reactions.

There are several factors that contribute to a successful outcome with hypnosis.  First, the client must want to be helped.  This sounds obvious, but often, the motivation for change is driven by another- for example, a husband who states he wants to quit smoking, but the situation is that his wife wants him to quit.  Hypnosis is not a miracle cure, there are no guarantees.   Another very important factor in successful hypnosis is the relationship between the client and the hypnotherapist.  The client must feel completely safe and trusting in this interaction.  Lastly, the client must be willing to continue to assess and modify their behaviors to achieve the desired outcome.

People develop clarity, insight, understanding and forgiveness, most times in the first session.  If your practitioner feels that a hypnotic regression is necessary, you may be guided back to the "Initial Sensitizing Event" which is the first time in your life where the event occurred. These memories are lost to the conscious mind as it gets "downloaded" onto the hard drive for future retrieval.  This is not always as easy as it sounds, as there are many times that the subconscious mind is not so willing to give up the information.  If the hypnotherapist is trained in other modalities such as EFT or Reiki, they may incorporate these into your session as needed when deeper healing or understanding is needed.

I recently worked with a client who had a claustrophobia issue.  This has been a problem for many, many years and it was affecting his life. He couldn't enter elevators or airplanes. When I regressed  him back to the first event he saw himself as a small child who was locked in a closet by his siblings. Another client came to my office with a fear of driving. It was crippling her life as she had to depend on others to take her to work and school. After just one hypnosis session, she was able to drive home. These memories are lost to the conscious mind as it gets "downloaded" onto the hard drive for future retrieval.  This is not always as easy as it sounds; as there are many times that the subconscious mind is not so willing to give up the information.

In summary, hypnosis is just one of the many complementary modalities that are available today in our quest to put  peace and healing back into our lives.  We can learn a lot about ourselves when we take the time to listen to our bodies and our thoughts.

In light,
